Visiting the steeply sloping rows of old vines Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on George’s Hill and Fiona Hill with viticulturist/winemaker Alex Davis, one is reminded of a small, old school, family run Burgundy domaine. Alex will tell you however, he is not trying to make Burgundy, he is obsessed with expressing the great terroir of the Russian River Valley. All the wines at the estate are certified organic and biodynamic, new oak is modestly used (30% in most cases), and hand-harvesting and native yeasts are the rule.
